pirates

henry's 5th birthday party was sunday ( a pirate theme). we made the invitations above together. he drew the map and we came up with the cute wording on the other side. so much fun watching 16(!) very well behaved kids play a 'walk the plank' water game and then hunt for a buried treasure. even though the pirate ship cake ended up looking like it had been hit by a cannon before the candles were even blown out, it was a great time. the best part was after all the craziness, henry looked at clay and i and said 'you are the best mom and dad in the whole world!'

L is for Lucy

I have been collecting or making 'L's' for lucy's room and came up with a really sweet one today. I appliqued an L to a fabric square, added the flower with button center and stretched onto a
5 x 5 canvas.

My other favorite is the ceramic L that was a gift from my two nieces cloee and kacie. They painted it (pink with green polka dots) at a studio and gave it to us right after lucy was born, almost a year ago!

just wanted to post a few things i've been working on to put in my shop on etsy. hopefully i will be able to have everything ready for the week after we get home from colorado and will officially open!
appliqued onesies. these also have a coordinating applique on the bottom.
diaper and wipe cases for when a big diaper bag is no longer needed or if you just want to throw a few in your purse for a short trip out.

scalloped bibs with a pearl snap closure and backed with terrycloth. really cute shape!

beanstalk garden

yesterday's adventure was going to the beanstalk children's garden
in swope park. it was fun for the kids to see green beans, corn and tomatoes growing along with tasting and smelling all sorts of herbs. henry especially enjoyed learning about the good guys and bad guys of the bug world. i would love to someday have a garden full of similar things. add that to the list.

maybe if we ever make the move to the country like we always dream about!

quince and clover

my name is heather, or hetty to some of my friends. i have three crazy, creative, funny, winey, sassy and sweet children (henry, charlie and lucy). i love creating whether it is with fresh flowers, fabrics, papers or whatever inspires me on a particular day. for the past five years i have been designing flowers for weddings and events but now i'm looking forward to my new creative adventure, quince and clover.

the name: it is hard to come up with a unique name that for me had to be a little organic with some meaning. i chose quince because we have a flowering quince bush in our backyard that the boys have picked the fruit from and we have made "quince soup" and "quince pie". clover because of the great bouquets of "flowers" that they pick for me because they know i love flowers. anyway, it just kind of came together and it will always remind me of this time in life when their imaginations are so big and they are just happy playing in the yard or going on little adventures.
what it is: i learned to sew from my grandma nadine when i was a little girl and have been creating ever since. the picture above is one of the first things she taught me to embroider. right now i have so many ideas and not enough time to make everything, so i'm trying to focus on sewing. i have started making appliqued onesies, burp cloths, blankets, bibs, etc. these will be for sale at my shop on etsy. i'll keep updating the shop as i make more things. please let me know what your favorites are or if you ever want to have something custom made! thanks to all of my friends and family for their encouragement!

blogging: i've been so inspired by all of the craft and design blogs and have listed some of my favorites. i'm hoping this one will be filled with new ideas that i'm working on, family life and inspirations!
